Nestled in the otherworldly landscape of the Atacama Desert, this journey is truly one of the most spectacular expeditions in all of South America. But you won’t be going it alone! Our friendly, highly trained guides are passionate about these mountains and will be with you every step of the way. We handle all the details, logistics, and safety so you can focus on the incredible journey ahead.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Going with the Flow: The mountains have their own schedule! We always plan for an extra day or two in the itinerary. This gives us the flexibility to adapt to weather conditions or take a little more time to acclimatize, ensuring everyone feels strong and healthy. Our experienced guides will make the call.
  • Your Safety is Our Priority: We’re constantly watching the weather and conditions on the mountain. If we feel it’s safer to adjust the itinerary or pause an activity, we’ll do it. It’s all about making sure your adventure is both amazing and safe.
  • Listening to Your Body: Acclimatization is key to a successful climb. If you’re not feeling well and need to return to Salta for safety reasons, we’ll help you make all the arrangements. Please note that the cost of the transfer and any other expenses in this case are not covered in the trip price.

Our Mountain Homes: Your Camps

At Base Camp (Llullaillaco and Atacama): Think of this as our cozy hub in the wild!

  • You’ll find a comfortable dining tent with a table, chairs, and even electricity () to charge your gear.
  • Believe it or not, we have Starlink Wi-Fi, so you can share an update with loved ones back home.
  • We’re always connected for safety with VHF radios and satellite communication, and we have emergency oxygen ready, just in case.

At the High Camps:

  • As we climb higher, we’ll be bunking in sturdy Ozark (or similar) mountain tents, with 2-3 people per tent.
  • Don’t worry about cooking! Our guides and assistants will be whipping up delicious, hot meals and drinks to keep you energized and warm.
  • Setting up and taking down our tents each day is a team effort and a classic part of the high-altitude expedition experience!

Weather Updates: Our team back in Salta will be our eyes on the sky, sending daily weather forecasts to your lead guide so we always know what’s coming.
