Itinerary

Day 1El Chalten - Laguna los Tres

You’ll leave early in the morning to the starting point of the trek located 20 kms away from town in our private vehicle to Hosteria El Pilar. Once arrived, we start to walk on the trail to Poincenot camp thru a forest of “Lengas”, typical Patagonic tree, having the Blanco River on our right. Here, we may leave our gear before continuing through Lenga (Southern Beech) forest and ascend to the Laguna de los Tres. At this lagoon we enjoy the closest, and best, views of the massif before returning to camp.

  • Distance: 15 km +650
  • Duration: 7 hrs
  • Physical Intensity: medium – high
  • Accommodation: Organized camp with sleeping gear, all meals, snacks and wine if desired (B, L, D)

Day 2Laguna Torre & Cerro Torre

After breakfast we begin our descent into the Valley of the Madre and Hija lagoons, with permanent views of Fitz-Roy. This trail leads us to the next valley: that of Cerro Torre. Always surrounded by Lenga forest, we take a short hike to our campsite where we leave our overnight gear before continuing on to the Maestri lookout. It was from here that the legendary climber planned his climb of Cerro Torre in the 50’s. From here we return to camp to rest.

  • Distance: 10 km
  • Trekking time: 7 hrs
  • Physical Intensity: Medium
  • Accommodation: Organized camp with sleeping gear, all meals, snacks and wine if desired (B, L, D)

Day 3River Tunel Valley

After breakfast and packing our clothes we walk to Torre Lake and cross the River Fitz-Roy on the zip line. Once across, our trail takes us through the forest, then along a rocky stretch and finally leads us to one of the best views in the valley: the Agachonas Pass. From this point we begin to descend towards the River Túnel Valley, with amazing views of the glacier bearing the same name and its neighbor, Mt. Solo. Once in the vast glacial valley we head westwards towards our next campsite at Laguna Toro.

  • Distance: 11 km +900
  • Duration: 8/9 hours
  • Physical Intensity: High
  • Accommodation: Wild camp and all meals (B, L, D)

Day 4Paso de Viento

Early in the morning, we prepare for another intense day, which begins with a second impressive river crossing, this time across the River Túnel. After it, we begin our gradual ascent across glacial moraine until reaching the Viento Pass – privileged viewing point of the Southern Ice Field and the main body of the Viedma Glacier. From here we return along the same path till reaching our campsite at Laguna Toro.

  • Distance: 13 km +700/-700
  • Duration: 9 hours
  • Physical Intensity: High
  • Accommodation: wild camping and all meals (B, L, D)

Day 5Pliegue Tumbado Hill & Viedma Lake

This day takes us along one of the Park’s less walked trails. The first part keeps us in the Túnel River Valley after which we gently climb towards the Pliegue Tumbado Hill. Along this route, returning towards El Chaltén, we will have the best views of the Viedma Lake, and each clearing in the forest will reward us with photo opportunities of mounts Fitz-Roy and Cerro Torre. Once back in El Chaltén the program ends.

  • Distance: 13 km -200
  • Duration: 7 hours
  • Physical Intensity: medium
  • Accommodation: meals (B, L)
