Let the adventures begin: Continuing with the theme from April, May is a perfect month to get out there and explore on foot the Andes or begin your career in mountain climbing.
The start of high season brings in more tourism and you will notice longer queues particularly to Machu Picchu. However with good advance planning you’ll cut out a lot of unnecessary waiting time during your trip.
It is recommended to explore the Sacred Valley, Cusco, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca during this month.
Some of the best trek routes at this time are Salkantay to Machu Picchu, Choquequirao to Machu Picchu, Ausangate trek including climbs on Nevado Qampa & Nevado del Inka (for beginners to climbing)
Festivities
Fiesta de las Cruces, or the Festival of the Crosses, is not a uniquely Peruvian celebration. However, the way the Peruvians celebrate it does make it one of the most important festivals, held across the country.
These are joyous festivals with a unique Peruvian twist, tkaing place throughout the Peruvian highlands and include a lot of traditional music, local dancing, and even events such as bullfighting as part of the celebrations.
